  • What is That's Sew Austin?

    That’s Sew Austin is a sew-cial club house for all skill levels. From expert teachers to on-hand machines, we have everything you need to bring your wildest threads of imagination to life. Our membership packages give you access to one-on-one classes, group events, and studio time.

  • What does it mean to be part of a sew-cial club house?

    Our sew-cial club house is your home away from home. We provide you with a safe, cozy environment to collaborate with others and work on all kinds of sewing projects. Plus, we have free snacks and a coffee bar!

  • What skill level do you teach?

    We offer classes for all skill levels, from beginners to intermediate and advanced professionals. Whether you're just starting out or looking to enhance your garment sewing skills, we have something for everyone. If you think you can do it, we are here to walk you through it!

  • What type of sewing can I learn here?

    Our primary focus is on garment sewing. While we also cover some bag construction and quilt making, our main emphasis is on creating clothing.

  • Do you teach cosplay?

    Yes, we do! Our founder is actually the audience winner of the 2023 Her Universe Fashion Show.

  • Do you teach quilting?

    Yes, we do teach quilting. However, we do not currently have a long-arm quilting machine in our studio.

  • Do I have to book a consultation before I become a member?

    No, you do not have to book a consultation before becoming a member, although it is recommended. Booking a consultation allows all your questions to be answered, but it is not mandatory.

  • Do I have to be a member?

    You don't have to be a member to book our services. However, membership offers a more cost-efficient option compared to booking each service individually.

  • What is parking like at the studio?

    We have free street parking available on Comal Street. The studio is located at the corner of East Cesar Chavez and Comal Street. Please note that we do not currently have private parking.

Class FAQs

  • Do I need to own a sewing machine to take classes?

    No, you do not need to own a sewing machine to take classes. We provide all the necessary machinery in-house for your convenience.

  • Do you teach beginners?

    Yes, we do teach beginners. They are our favorites to work with!

  • How long are classes?

    We operate on a 30-minute time block system. This means that classes can be tailored to accommodate our members’ needs.

  • What do I need to bring for classes?

    If you're working on a specific project, make sure to bring along the corresponding supplies required for that project. However, if you're following the workbook method, rest assured that the studio will provide all necessary materials, including muslin and other required items.

  • May I stay with my minor child during their class?

    Yes, you are welcome to stay with your minor child during their class. Your presence is entirely acceptable and encouraged.

  • How do I cancel/reschedule my class?

    You can easily cancel or reschedule your class either through the app or directly from your confirmation email.

Studio FAQs

  • What machines are available in the studio?

    In our studio, we utilize the Singer 9960 across all stations. Additionally, we house the Baby Lock Evolution Serger and a cover stitch or combination machine. Furthermore, we maintain an industrial sewing machine to accommodate various projects.

  • How many sewists, actively sewing, are allowed in the studio at any given time?

    The studio allows a maximum of seven sewists actively sewing at any given time, corresponding to the number of available stations. Thus, the limit ensures that there are never more than seven individuals sewing concurrently in the studio.

  • What other supplies are provided at the studio?

    At the studio, we provide cabinets stocked with an array of accessories for experimentation and testing purposes. These accessories are readily available upon request.

  • How many cutting tables are available?

    There are four cutting tables available downstairs and one two cutting tables available upstairs.

  • Do I have to share equipment?

    At each station, all necessary scissors and basic sewing supplies are provided, ensuring that you don't need to share items such as scissors and measuring tapes.

  • May I bring my own equipment?

    You're welcome to bring your own equipment, including your sewing machine. In fact, we encourage it. Sewing on a familiar machine can enhance your comfort and productivity. Many find it advantageous to practice on their own equipment at home after learning on studio machines.

  • Teacher Availability

    Teachers set their own schedules, and availability is subject to change. The app shows their current openings, though updates may take a few minutes to sync. There will always be a teacher available during standard studio hours unless we’re closed for a holiday. If anything looks off, you can reschedule or submit a Booking Issue Form on our Member Support Page.

Membership FAQs

  • When will my membership renew?

    Your membership renews on the same day of the month you initially signed up. For instance, if you started your membership on the 16th of a month, it will automatically renew on the 16th of the following month.

  • Do unused time blocks roll over to the next month?

    Unused time blocks do not roll over to the next month. If you don't utilize or schedule them, you will lose them.

  • Is there a way to purchase multiple months at one time?

    Yes, it's possible to purchase multiple months of membership at once. Some of our members opt for this option. You can hold multiple memberships simultaneously, and you're free to cancel any of them whenever you wish. There are no cancellation charges associated with having multiple memberships.

  • How do I upgrade, pause, or change my membership?

    Our system doesn’t currently support pausing memberships, but you can cancel or change your membership at any time.

    To make changes, open the app, go to the Subscription tab, and select Manage. You can also use your monthly confirmation email (subject: “Successful That's Sew Austin Membership Payment” or “Successful Start of That's Sew Austin …) and click the “Change or Cancel Subscription” button.

    If you’re switching tiers, you’ll need to cancel your current membership and then restart at your desired tier. Just a heads-up—our system allows multiple active memberships, so be sure to cancel the original one to avoid being charged for both.

    Another option: visit our booking portal, scroll to the bottom, and click “Code Balance”. From there, you can manage your membership—no login required!

    You’ve got full control whenever you need it, but we’re always here to help if needed.

  • Is a there a penalty for canceling my membership?

    No, there is no penalty for canceling your membership. However, if you are on a lower price point than what is currently available, canceling will result in losing access to your current rate. If you choose to rejoin, you'll need to renew at the new price point.

  • How do I cancel my membership?

    You can cancel your membership anytime—it’s all in your hands! Just open the app, head to the Subscription tab, and select Manage.

    Alternatively, check your membership confirmation email (subject: “Successful That's Sew Austin Membership Payment” or “Successful Start of That's Sew Austin …) and click the “Change or Cancel Subscription” button.

    Another option: visit our booking portal, scroll to the bottom, and click “Code Balance”. From there, you can manage your membership—no login required!
